When we found out we were expecting a baby boy, we anticipated an exciting debate to ensue about what to name our son. Much to our surprise, the process took about five minutes and went something like this: While up late one night, I began searching through name lists for ideas and found two that I liked (Yes, two. Ten years of teaching over 500 fourth graders has left me with a lot of names that are out of the question!). The next morning I shared my favorite with Eric who replied, "That sounds good." And that was the end of that. No negotiating. No debating. Just one perfect name.
So why this name? Simple. It means "given by God." Of course we know that all children are precious gifts from the Lord, but we found out we were pregnant with our "gift" on Christmas morning. No other gift given that day could compare. There is also a deeper meaning rooted in our faith in God's plan for our lives. At this time of uncertainty about when Eric's job will change, where we will be living, and if and when we would even have a baby, we have been fully depending on the Lord for His timing. Some days, waiting for His plan to come to fruition has been exciting and other days downright frustrating. Above all, we know God is in control of our lives. The purpose of a gift is that it is given at the perfect time for the right occasion. So we trust, knowing that our son has arrived at the perfect time in our lives, and is the perfect addition to our family. We couldn't have asked for anything more.
