The Screamin' Peanut

Please Note: The literary quality of my blog is declining.  It is directly related to the number of brain cells left in my head.  :P

I’ve heard tales about the 6 week old fussy period babies go through.   Well, here we are! I seriously just went to check on him in his bed because he’s been quietly napping for an hour and fifteen minutes.  I was honestly worried something may have happened to him.  This is the first real daytime nap in two weeks.  Yay for me! (Never mind the fact that I’m using this precious time to type instead of sleep).  My book on baby sleep comments on the 5-8 week old: “Many babies reach a peak of fussiness/ wakefulness during this time.  It is natural for baby to give up napping, and be irritable all day.”  Yyyeessss.

I have learned that to be a mom, I must be the best creative problem solver.  So, we’ve come up with lots of ways to keep our sanity this week.  And the Moby wrap from Aunt Ann—it’s a life saver!  When we are forced to give up on a nap, I tie him to me and he seems happy enough.   All in all, I’ve been spared a really tough time.  Count your blessings, right?  I’m so thankful that his worst cry is really not all that bad (and he looks so stinking adorable when he screams), he still sleeps in between feeds every night often for 4-5 hours, the weather has been beautiful so we can take walks in the park to calm down, and he’s so easy to calm with just a little swaddling, bouncing, and shushing.

I’ve been learning to depend on the Lord for the tiniest things, and my prayers are often pretty trivial.  But, at least my son is hearing me call on Jesus during “difficult” times, and He has given me just enough strength and sanity for each day.  So, bring on the rest of week 6, the growth spurt, and weeks 7-8!

This little pouty lip shows up after every fuss and I can't help but smile
